World history: Unique artifact dating back to time of Pharaoh Ramses III unearthed in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabian archaeologists have recently discovered the first historic artifact which dates back to the epoch of an Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses III, who ruled from 1192 BC to 1160 BC.
The artifact is a rock carrying an ancient hieroglyphic inscription mentioning the Egyptian pharaoh. The discovery was made in the north of the Arabian Peninsula near the ancient oasis of Tayma, Tabuk province, famous for its relics.
As a result of archaeological excavations, undertaken by Saudi Arabian archeologists in this region of the Arabian Peninsula and examination of unearthed historical artifacts, archeologists discovered a trade route which used to connect Nile Valley and the oasis of Tayma in ancient times. Trade caravans used it to deliver to Egypt incense, copper, gold and silver – products which were famous in the North of Arabia.
