World Libraries: British Library keen on Videogame Archive

8 November 2010

The British Library is looking to work more closely with the videogame industry to help preserve gaming’s 30-year history.

The British Library in not the only one in its efforts. For instance, in 2008 the National Videogame Archive was set up at the National Media Museum in Bradford in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University.

“An archive is good for nostalgia and to connect back to our history and it helps us to understand our culture today based on our contribution to the past” – said Michael Rawlinson, head of UK Interactive Entertainment.

The history of videogames dates back to late 1940s. As for today, computer and video games represent a powerful industry with turnovers of hundreds billion dollars, and stay as a popular culture trend.
