22 December 2010

Unique documents which shed the light on the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov were discovered at the Kirov Oblast State Archive.

Among the finds are 17 letters of the writer addressed to his friend Dmitry Krupin. They were written between 1942 and 1957. In these letters Mikhail Sholokhov tells about his life, shares his impressions of trips, and tells the news about their common acquaintances. The Krupiny family gave these documents to a famous Kirov local lore specialist Vasily Plenkov, and after his death the materials found themselves in the archive. A special interest for experts in literature and researchers of Sholokhov’s work is aroused by another discovery – the text of chapters from the novel “They fought for their country” with author’s notes. The expert commission suggests including rarities in the State Registry of Unique Documents of the Archives of the Russian Federation.
