IT and Society: Video make 90% of networked content by 2013

1 December 2010

The study conducted by the Cisco company, indicates that by 2013 video generated, first and foremost, by private users is expected to make 90% of content in the networks. Allan Bjornstad, the Director for Technological Development of Cisco TelePresence, is convinced that the most share of this percentage, as well as in Russia, will become content, transmitted via video communications.

Expert believes that a rapid grow of the consumer video communications segment in Russia is promoted by, firstly, a growing popularity of free services, and, secondly, penetration of video communications to companies and then to homes of the staff. The latest trend can be observed today in Europe and the USA, where the use of video communications is rapidly spreading by individuals.

Leaders in the video communications industry have quickly reacted to the trend. In was in October that Cisco announced the release of the first home TelePresence system – Cisco umi - in the USA.

After conducting research of Cisco umi sales in the United States it will be decided on a further distribution of this product in other countries.
