Libraries of Russia: Conference “University library: Facing challenges of time” kicks off in Yekaterinburg

The Seventh Interregional scientific and practical conference “University library: Facing challenges of time” is being held in Yekaterinburg on December 1-2 2010.

The conference has been organized by the A.M. Gorky Ural State University (UrGU) and the Ural State University Scientific Library.

The year 2010 sees 90th anniversary of the Ural State University and its scientific library. This historical event defines the subject matter of the conference and at the same time gives an impulse for a discussion of the present and future of libraries. The conference has attracted librarians, teachers, and information specialists.

The conference brings into focus the following issues:

- Informatization of library science; Library 2.0;

- Electronic information resources; open educational resources and open electronic archives;

- Innovations at libraries; library management;

- Information culture of an individual;

- Historical development of university library; preservation of documentary and cultural heritage;

- University community and library.

The conference will also launch a roundtable discussion “Electronic library systems: pro et contra”.
