Russian culture abroad: Russian center opens in Jordan
On January 19 2011 the Russian Center was opened in Amman. The center was set up by the “Russkiy Mir” Foundation at the State University of Jordan. Thus Jordan has become the first Arab country to launch the Russian center.
Opening of the Russian Center was held within the framework of the first visit of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to Jordan. High on the agenda during the high-level negotiations were issues related to expansion of political, economic and cultural cooperation between two countries.
Russian center is expected to offer effective assistance in development of humanitarian dialogue between two countries and in learning Russian language in Jordan, which is on friendly terms with Russia.
Jordan – is a land of three religions: Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Opening of the Russian center –Russia’s outpost – acquires a special importance, stressed the acting President of the University of Jordan.
The opening ceremony attracted representatives of the Russian Embassy, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Jordan, experts in Russian language studies, lecturers and students of the university in Amman, representatives of compatriots’ organizations and journalists.
