Russian language abroad: Contest “Russian language – as easy as ABC” kicks off in Estonia
A contest “Russian language – as easy as ABC” for pupils of 7-8th classes has for the fifth year in row attracted Estonian pupils with Russian as a foreign language to the Tallinn Teachers’ House.
“It is highly important that there is now a contest intended for pupils of 7–8th classes – highlights the Russian language teacher of the Lasnamäe gymnasium Galina Noorkyiv. – Often such events are aimed at those who start learning Russian language or senior pupils”.
The contest takes place during the last days of school winter holidays, its theme and program change every time, while its tie with the Russian culture remains invariable. This year the key theme of the contest was defined by the Orthodox Christmas. Tasks were based on Christmas traditions: participants were to compose Christmas carols, guess riddles, do crosswords, identify main characters of different fairy tales, and also write congratulations on the New Year and Christmas.
The contest in the best command of Russian language has been attracting children from different corners of Estonia – Kohtla-Järve, Rapla, Tapa and other cities. Participants and prize-winners of the contest were awarded books, DVDs with films, and other prizes, while its winners won a trip to Finland.
