Digital libraries: MGIMO University launches digital library
Works on creation of the MGIMO University’s digital library have been brought to an end. Some of its highlights cover 216 digitized rare manuscripts, a new computer class with 20 workplaces, and modernization of workplaces for the staff members.
The new digital library enables to develop active and interactive learning. It creates a common information space and provides technical support to educational and research processes.
Professors, teachers, staff members and students of the MGIMO University will have an access to the Digital library. What is more, the library may soon welcome external users as well. This is especially important as the university keeps a rare collection of Eastern manuscripts which are heavily used by scholars. With the launch of the digital library the University’s library holdings including these manuscripts and editions are now being converted into digital format.
Within the framework of the project was taken an important step in reformation of MGIMO’s publishing practice and its integration in the university’s information space. Books written by the University’s staff will be immediately introduced into the Digital library’s database, what will cut down the expenses for book printing and facilitate access to the information.
Project’s developers have created a convenient and safe tool to access the information. Protection system implemented at the Digital library doesn’t only offer to work with books and guides. There is also an opportunity of safe storage and circulation of the university’s internal e-documents — orders, contracts, government contracts, regulations etc. This will considerably improve the performance of administrative staff.
What is more, the Digital library gives an opportunity to print out eBooks and their fragments right on-site at the I.G. Tyulin Scientific Library at request. In the future this service is expected to bring in a stable income.
