Regions of Russia: Arkhangelsk Oblast celebrates Mikhail Lomonosov’s 300th birthday anniversary in 2011

The final session of the Lomonosov Foundation’s Board in 2010 worked out a plan of key events dedicated to the upcoming birthday anniversary of a prominent scholar. It covers main events which will take place in Arkhangelsk Oblast and will be organized by Arkhangelsk Oblast institutions.

The anniversary year will start with an International scientific and practical conference “Arctic borders” which will kick off in Norway in January within the framework of implementation of the “Lomonosov - Nansen” initiative. It will bring together the delegation from Arkhangelsk Oblast which will include region’s authorities, rectors of Arkhangelsk Oblast universities, academicians and students. June and November 2011 will become the busiest months judging by the number of events both of national and international significance. In the first summer month Arkhangelsk Oblast will hold: the Second International Arctic Forum which will bring into focus 300th birthday anniversary of M.V. Lomonosov, the Seventh International Socio-Ecological Forum, the International Youth Conference “Ecology 2011”, the International Conference “Development of academic science in M.V. Lomonosov’s fatherland”, the Second Forum of Association of the Leading Universities of Russia, the All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Fourth White Sea symposium” which will attract participants from abroad, as well as a session of the Federal Organizing Committee focused on preparation and holding jubilee events etc.

The key event in November 2011 will become 40th Lomonosov Readings centered around the theme “Born by the Russian land”, dedicated to 300th birthday anniversary of M.V. Lomonosov which will be mounted in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk and in the scholar’s fatherland in Kholmogory district. November will also see the International Conference “Heritage of M.V. Lomonosov and development of science, education and culture” and the International Student Arts Festival. The Lomonosov Foundation supported an initiative of holding an exhibition “Successors of the White Sea masters”. It will take place in October-November 2011 in the Anichkov Palace, St. Petersburg.

What is more, the Lomonosov Foundation has founded a Lomonosov prize which will be awarded in April for innovative academic and pedagogical activities.
