Internet resources: Google upgrades its search algorithm
Google Corp., which owns the world’s largest online search engine, has announced the introduction of algorithmic improvement to its ranking, its Official Blog reads. This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality and irrelevant sites as well as resources providing illegal content.
Algorithmic improvement to ranking is reported to impact 11.8% of queries. This way Google intends to reduce sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites — sites with original content and information.
To start with, Google is launching this change in the U.S. only.
It’s worth noting that this update does not rely on the feedback the company received from the Personal Blocklist Chrome extension launched last week. Google’s Personal Blocklist enables users to block unwanted search results. What is more, the extension sends blocked site information to Google, which in its turn studies the resulting feedback and explores using it as a potential ranking signal for the company’s search results. However an announcement also reads “if you take the top several dozen domains from the Chrome extension, then this algorithmic change addresses 84% of them, which is strong independent confirmation of the user benefits”.
Algorithmic improvement to ranking shows Google’s general strategy aimed at struggle against spam and irrelevant links in search results.
