Esri CIS, a distributor of Esri — provider of geo-information technologies — in Russia and CIS countries, has announced the launch of Voronezh Oblast geo-portal. This portal offers a detailed geo-database, region’s topographic map, online map services and an option to browse and share geo-information resources.

Geo-portal was developed by the Voronezh Oblast Department for Information Technologies in an effort to create and develop a cross-sectoral regional geo-information system.

The main purpose of the present geo-portal is to provide free access to citizens, organizations, local and public authorities to spatial and metadata, and organize efficient work of citizens and organizations with them. Geo-portal’s metadata will include descriptions of services and products in all spheres of activities, related to creation and storage of region’s spatial data. Meanwhile the geo-portal is a convenient mechanism enabling users to search and exchange geo-information resources.

The portal welcomes both registered and unregistered users. The former can browse and view data, create and upload metadata about their resources, and also save the search history. Unregistered users in their turn can access the search system and view information, however are unable to upload new data to the portal.
