The Minster of Education and Research of Norway Kristin Halvorsen encourages senior pupils to choose the Russian language as a foreign.

- Knowledge of Russian language is a qualification to be much in demand in future. This knowledge opens a wide range of opportunities, - said Ms Halvorsen in her interview to “Finnmarken”.

The article reads that proximity to Russia and constantly increasing cross-border activities in the northern regions prove to be good incentives for learning Russian language for the youth. During the Parliamentary Hour in Storting Ms Halvorsen also came up with an idea to introduce the Russian language at the primary school.

- First and foremost, we need to generate interest of the Norwegian youth in Russia in order to see all the opportunities for cooperation and future labor-market available there. The sooner pupils will show interest in the Russian language the better.

The Minster of Education and Research of Norway Kristin Halvorsen mentioned that it was critical to offer a holistic Russian language learning. It means that already at primary school pupils will be offered to study Russian language, and they will be able to continue it when moving from the secondary to the senior school.
