Memory of Russia: Monument to Yermak to open in Tomsk

Bronze statue of the Cossack chieftain Yermak Timofeevich will be set up in the center of Tomsk in summer of 2011.

City Hall is planning to erect a monument - an equestrian statue of five meters high an 12 meters long, in the Governor's district (downtown), on the embankment of the river Tom’.
Author sculpture - Yunus Safardiar from London, who studied in St. Petersburg.

"It is assumed that in May the foundation will be laid, and by the end of summer Yermak will take its place on the banks of Tom’. Currently, the sculpture is delivered to Tomsk and stored at the airport,"- noted the city administration.

Earlier, a similar monument, but smaller, was installed at the Novosibirsk airport Tolmachevo.

Ermak Timofeevich – a Cossack chieftain, leader of the expedition to Siberia, which made a start to the annexation of Siberia to Russia and its development.
