Information technology and society: 8 February – International Safe Internet Day

February 8 the global community marks the International Safe Internet Day. This holiday, which marks a public rejection of "harmful" Internet content, was established by a decision of the European Commission in 2004.

On this day in Moscow takes place the II Safe Internet Forum, dedicated to the struggle against dangerous content, with the support of the RF Ministry of Mass Communications. The Forum is attended by representatives of federal and regional government bodies, educational centers, academic institutions, associations and enterprises from different regions of the Russian Federation.

On the eve of the holiday Russia announced the establishment of non-profit partnership "The League of Safe Internet". Its board of trustees is headed by the head of the Ministry of Communications Igor Shchegolev. This organization brought together the biggest players of the national Internet market in the fight against illegal Internet content.

The forum will also address issues of culture and positive content on the Internet, the topic of education and information security, technical methods of protection against illegal content and issues of Internet accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The Forum will also host awards ceremony for the young winners in the field of the safe Internet "My safe net" and "Interneshka”.
