Information technology and science: 3D image of the Sun is now online
The unique 3D image of the Sun is available for the first time on the NASA official website since February 6, 2011.
It has become possible when the data, coming from two space vehicles of the Sun-Earth connection observatory, launched in 2006, was combined. February 6 vehicles A and B on the sun orbit for the first time reached the divide of 180 degrees and found themselves at the opposite points. Thus, they were able to send to the Earth the images of the two halves of the Sun’s surface.
Angelos Vurdilas, a member of scientific group of the STEREO program said, that the 3D image is ‘a great achievement’ for the Sun’s physics. It enables to see the Sun the way it really is. STEREO observatory will assist in more precise forecast of the space conditions in the area of satellites’ operation, orbital observatories, other vehicles and also consider the impact of great plasma emissions to the magnetic field of our planet.
