Museums: Exhibition “A sound of peace thundered to that of a sword” in Moscow

On March 15, 2011 the State Historical Museum launched an exhibition “A sound of peace thundered to that of a sword” from the “Russian historical portrait” series, the collection “Museum of Sergei and Tatyana Podstanitskiye”.

The collection of Sergei and Tatyana Podstanitskiye is not just an ensemble of wonderful works of art, which show a particular sketch of history of Russian art. The collection unites works of famous masters and many unknown painters, graphic artists, miniature painters, sculptors of 18th–19th cc., it features an iconography of historical figures and events of military history in portraits and battle scenes, including those originating from collections of tsars and grand princes, art antiquities. The exhibition aims to unveil a unique private collection of Russian historical artifacts, which by its contest and structure resembles home museums of noble families in old Russia.
