World History: Palace of Versailles unveils exhibition of thrones from different epochs

The exhibition “Throne in Majesty” (Trones en Majeste) kicked off in the Grand Apartments of the Château of Versailles in France. The new exhibition will work until June 19 2011.

The exposition showcases 40 thrones coming from different epochs and civilizations. Visitors have a chance to see the thrones which belonged to Vatican Popes, Beijing Emperors and European monarchs.

Of special interest are the following exhibits: the throne of the French King Louis XVI, displayed in Salon de Venus; the throne of the King of the Franks Dagobert I in Salon de l'Abondance; the throne of the Qianlong Emperor of China in Salon de Diana; the throne of the Doge of Venice in Salon de Mars; as well as the throne of Napoleon.
