Internet resources: New project “Icons of Russia” go online

A new project called “Icons of Russia” has been launched on Internet. The website provides high-quality images of Orthodox art works - icons, their fragments and hagiography icons with comments.

A convenient navigation system will help website’s visitors learn more about the origin of the Orthodox art of icon painting, the layout of the iconostasis, peculiarities of different icon painting schools, brief biographies of prominent icon painters, and terms used in the Orthodox art. Apart from that, the website will offer access to news about cultural events in Russia and abroad, dedicated to the art of ancient Russia.

The project aims to popularize cultural heritage of Russia and provide public access to masterpieces of Orthodox culture. The high quality images enable website’s visitors to judge about the beauty and diversity of old Russian icons, housed by state and private museums of Russia.
