Regions of Russia: Exhibition “Kizhi. The Century of Opolovnikov” in Petrozavodsk

The “Kizhi” Museum-Reserve is unveiling its new exhibition which marks 100th anniversary of an outstanding restorer A.V. Opolovnikov and 45th anniversary of the museum.

On March 4 2011 the exhibition hall of the “Kizhi” Museum in Petrozavodsk launched an exhibition called “Kizhi. The Century of Opolovnikov”. It is dedicated to the hundredth anniversary of the famous founder of the museum-reserve, one of the first open-air museums in Russia, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary.

The exhibition puts on display authentic architecture paintings — first sketches of expositions of the future museum of wooden architecture under the open sky. Measurement drawings, projects for restoration of monuments from holdings of the “Kizhi” museum familiarize visitors of the exhibition with an art of architectural graphics.

The exposition also features a portrait gallery of Kizhi carpenters, who conducted restoration works under the guidance of A. Opolovnikov.
