Society and Culture: Photographs of archaeological excavations carried out in Dovmontov town go on display in Pskov Kremlin

26 April 2011

April 30 Pskov Kremlin is launching a conference-exhibition, dedicated to 90th anniversary of a famous architect-restorer Boris Skobeltsyn.

The photo archive of Boris Skobeltsyn includes over a thousand negatives based on archaeology, systematized and annotated by the author himself. The most part of materials, with a few minor exceptions, have never been published or put on display before. Thus it was decided to familiarize residents of Pskov with archaeology-based works of the famous photographer.

The conference-exhibition called “From the archaeological photo-chronicle of B.S. Skobeltsyn. Dovmontov town (1959—1982). 90th birthday anniversary” will showcase 105 photos originating from the family photo archive of Boris Skobeltsyn, who depicted the process and results of archaeological excavations carried out in Dovmontov town between late 50s and early 80s.

The opening of the conference-exhibition will bring together specialists in preservation and exploration of historical and cultural heritage who will deliver speeches in the context of preservation and museumification of monuments of Dovmontov town.

The exhibition will run up to June 15.
