Museums of Russia: Exhibition “Masterpieces of historical portrait. Heroes of their time” in Yekaterinburg

Within the framework of its 75th anniversary Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts is unveiling a project “Masterpieces of historical portrait. Heroes of their time” – portraits of high society in 19th c. from the collection of the State Historical Museum. The exhibition is running from April 21 to July 24, 2011.

It’s the first time Yekaterinburg puts on display a unique collection of high society portraits of 19th c. from the painting collection of the renowned Moscow museum. These portraits were created by outstanding masters of that time, such as V.L. Borovikovsky, George Dawe, K.Ye. Makovsky, V.A. Tropinin, O.A. Kiprensky, S.K. Zaryanko, V.A. Serov. Of special value for contemporaries were Imperial portraits, which were widely known and used to be copied a lot.

The exposition features 31 high society portraits, some of these works were restored specially for the exhibition and have never been unveiled before.
