Libraries of Russia: Scientific conference “Rumyantsev Readings” launched in Moscow

April 19-21, 2011 Moscow is hosting a scientific conference “Rumyantsev Readings”. This year its theme is: “Libraries and scholar communities: interaction and two-way influence”. The conference has been organized by the Russian State Library.

Rumyantsev Readings 2011 aim to improve co-operation between cultural and academic institutions to promote innovative activities.

High on the agenda are the following issues:

- Inseparable connection between culture and science. The role of library and information activities.

- The priority of libraries as information suppliers for research: challenges of information society.

- Scholar content of library and information resources: partnership strategy for libraries and scientific institutions.

- The role of humanities component of library and information resources for modern society.

The conference will also dwell on the history of manuscripts and printed books, book and graphics art, theory and history of book culture, bibliophilic practices, IT and eBooks, theory and methodology of bibliology, library science and bibliography.

The conference has organized the following roundtable discussions:

“P.I. Jurgenson: The past and present”;

“Frontier co-operation of CIS member states in cultural issues (timed to 20th anniversary of CIS”

- “Publishing as information and intellectual technology” (Russian Library Association section);

- “Information supply for the humanities”;

“Intellectual and electronic resources of RF regions as core content at regional centers of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library”.

The conference has brought together specialists of research institutes, universities, libraries, publishing companies, public organizations, state officials.
