April 17, 2011 Nevsky Institute of Language and Culture in St. Petersburg launched the Festival of Languages. More than three dozen dialects were briefly presented within one day.

The key aim pursued by organizers is to show the diversity of the world languages and the uniqueness of each of them. This is the fifth festival held in the northern capital.

Apart from foreign language teachers and students the Festival attracted people of unusual professions. For example, field linguists. They are working in African tribes, on far away isles of the Pacific Ocean and even in tundra. These specialists are studying and preserving the original culture.

Another novelty of the festival is lessons for children. At the children’s club young learners studied written language of ancient Egypt and even played mummies.
