Russian culture abroad: Exhibition “Fabergé. The Sacred Images” opens in Vatican
For the first time in the history of Vatican Museums in the Pinacoteca's Salone di Raffaello visitors can admire masterpieces of Russian decorative and applied art. The unique exhibition “Fabergé. The Sacred Images” was solemnly launched April 14, 2011 bringing together government officials of Russia.
The exhibition showcases over 140 works of art of the jeweler to the Russian Imperial Court Carl Fabergé. Among them are 9 “Imperial” Easter eggs, which were created on commission by the Czars Alexander III and Nicolas II, as well as icons in precious frameworks, which belonged to the Tsar’s family and high officials of the Russian Empire.
It took 4 years for the “Svyaz vremyon” (Continuity of Time) Foundation to launch the exhibition in Vatican. This initiative has already received blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, while the very idea of the show had been discussed by his predecessor Alexy II of Moscow.
