Museums of Russia: Exhibition “Florentine dreams. Engravings and books in Italy 16th-19th cc.” in Astrakhan

15 April 2011

April 15, 2011 the Dogadin Art Gallery in Astrakhan is mounting an exhibition of Western European engravings and rare books of 16th-19th cc. from collections of the art gallery and Krupskaya Regional library. The “Florentine dreams” exhibition showcases rarities from the library of Ivan Akimovich Repin (1841-1908) – Astrakhan bibliophile and patron, as well as memorabilia from the Khlebnikov Museum collection.

The exhibition features rare prints by prominent Italian artists Marco Dente and Federico Barocci. These prints have been recently restored and evoke interest among admirers of classical engravings. Also on display are unique examples of book culture – two folios from 5-volume “Gallery Medici” series, which feature Jacques Callot, Stefano della Bella and Antonio Tempesta.

The exhibition is accompanied by thematic music and a film “Florence. Following traces of Renaissance geniuses”.
