Days of Culture of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland, featuring exhibitions, concerts, discussions and film shows, have for the first time opened in Murmansk.

Until now each of neighboring countries used to hold days of their own culture in Murmansk, however this year diplomats of Northern European countries with support of the information bureau of the Council of Ministers of Northern Countries in St. Petersburg proposed to team up and hold joint two weeks.

“This year will cover several areas: music, art projects, discussion forums and events, unveiled by libraries and educational institutions of Murmansk”, said Lyubov Kuzovnikova, one of organizers of the “Days”.

She explained that organizers tried their best to build a program which could show the diversity of northern culture and present urgent problems of modern North.

Days of Culture kicked off with an exhibition “Denmark and Greenland: sky, land, sea and all the rest", which demonstrates a great care taken by Northern European countries of nature and the responsibility their citizens feel for ecological safety.

On Thursday the center of Murmansk will see the Norway-Russia border: an artist Morten Trovin will install ten pairs of boundary posts in the center of Murmansk to make the passers-by thing about the role of borders in our life, conventions and stereotypes.

Days of Culture of Northern European countries will run up to April 24.
