Regions of Russia: Saratov’s “Great reading” project marks 50th anniversary of the first flight into space

April 5 – 7, 2011 Saratov Oblast is holding events of the spring session of the “Great reading” project: “The good power of memory: Yuri Gagarin in Saratov land”, dedicated to 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space.

The program opened with a demonstration of the mobile complex of information and library service (KIBO) of the Regional Universal Scientific Library and a project focused on 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space in Theatre Square, Saratov.

New books were unveiled at the creative meeting: “A Dream of Space. In Gagarin’s anticipation” (a joint project of the M.I. Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, Regional Universal Scientific Library, Regional Local Lore Museum and Yu. A. Gagarin Public Museum; Viktor Porokhnya’s “Six earth and space decades. Thoughts on Gagarin, his and our time”; V.N. Tsybin and V.A. Kalashnikov’s “50th anniversary of Yu.A. Gagarin’s and G.S. Titov’s flights into space”; an album “Space glory of Saratov land”; Yu.A. Safronov’s “Found wings”; V.I. Rossoshansky’s “Gagarin’s phenomenon” (new edition).

In the library’s new arrivals room participants of the project will have a chance to familiarize themselves with a book and illustrative exhibition “Man. Earth. Universe”.

April 6 participants of the project are meeting with students and lecturers of Saratov State Technical University. Guests of honor will join the work of the 1st Saratov Open Forum “Space unites: innovations, investments, modernization”.

The program also features an exhibition “The Way to Space” of the Regional Local Lore Museum and a photo exhibition which will kick off at the Regional House of Workers in the Arts, anniversary celebrations on the site where Yu.A. Gagarin landed (Engels district).
