World History: Vienna launches exhibition to mark Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space

The exposition which highlights the first human flight into space and space exploration, has opened at the exhibition center of Vienna - Kunsthalle Wien.

The exhibition called "Weltraum. Die Kunst und ein Traum” (“Space. Art and dream”) has been organized by the exhibition center jointly with the Natural History Museum of Vienna, Austria with participation of Russian Embassy in Austria and the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Vienna. The exposition showcases photographs, paintings and installations, all in all about 100 works by more than 50 artists, including – Andy Warhol and Russian artists Alexander Vinogradov and Vladimir Dubosarsky.

Of particular interest in the exposition is a showcase which turns the spotlight on Yuri Gagarin and everything related to him – a street sign bearing Gagarin’s name - Juri Gagarin Strasse, books, newspapers and magazines in German featuring cosmonaut’s images. The opening ceremony of the exhibition attracted Russian and German cosmonauts – Alexander Volkov and Franz Viehböck.
