History of St. Petersburg: Russia’s oldest school – St. Peter’s School - opens its museum

St. Petersburg has opened a museum of Russia’s oldest school – famous St Peter’s School. Roman Chudinovskikh, school’s pedagogue and graduate, comments that this is a new modern school museum which sheds light on the history of the oldest school of our country: “In the interesting interior made to an exclusive design of our graduate (the school has always been famous for artistic talents), visitors have a chance to see the exhibits, which have been collected within three centuries of school’s history. These are photographs, documents, books, items of school life. And, without a doubt, it revives the memory of our prominent graduates. Among them are Rossi, Benois, Musorgsky, Lesgaft, Kharms and many others”.

By the way, graduates of this very school in many respects defined the architectural image of St. Petersburg. Recent alumni helped to collect the museums exhibits.

St. Peter’s School – the secondary comprehensive school № 222 with an extensive learning of German language, was founded in 1709, it is just 6 years younger than St. Petersburg itself. For 300 years of its existence this institution has prepared many outstanding pupils, who deeply affected the history of Russia and St. Petersburg.
