International events: EuroDIG 2011 Conference on Internet Governance kicks off in Belgrade

May 30-31, 2011 Belgrade (Serbia) is holding 4th European Dialogue on Internet Governance EuroDIG which brings together over 300 participants from all corners of the world. The Coordination Center for TLD RU is represented by its Head Andrei Kolesnikov, Chairperson of the Coordination Center Council Marina Nikerova and other staff.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media of Russia Ilya Massukh greeted participants of the conference and congratulated Serbian colleagues on the launch of Cyrillic TLD. Deputy Minister called attention to necessity to meet interests of all parties concerned in the process of Internet governance and highlighted a special role of the United Nations in current digital agenda.

This is the first time EuroDIG conference takes place not in the Western Europe, but in the eastern part of Europe. Along with the traditional theme of Internet governance, EuroDig 2011 addresses issues of protection and safety of private life on the Web, development of new economic models on Internet, involvement of web media, blogs and social networks and many other issues. One of themes on the agenda is discussion of the New gTLD program, which provides creation of unlimited number of accessible domain zones, what is a matter of urgency on the threshold of the ICANN conference in Singapore, which may finally adopt the program.
