Internet resources: YouTube reveals 3D video

31 May 2011

Nvidia, Mozilla and Google have teamed up to make stereoscopic 3D videos accessible on YouTube. The feature is supported through a new HTML5-based 3D playback mode that works in Firefox 4. 3D video will run on Nvidia 3D Vision hardware-enabled computers.

YouTube has had experimental stereoscopic 3D support since 2009. Since then the company has announced co-operation with several content providers. A few months ago YouTube signed an agreement with Korean LG Electronics under which YouTube will launch 3D videos to run on TVs supporting 3D. The parties have agreed that YouTube will support 3D-video shot with the new smartphone LG Optimus 3D. LG claim that Optimus 3D will feature a special program for direct video upload to YouTube, while the popular Internet hosting service will support the format.

Google announce that video released on YouTube is truly 3D and via HDMI or DLNA connectors it can be viewed on widescreen TVs.
