“Medusa’s Head” by the renowned baroque sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini has been put on show in the Italian Embassy in Moscow within the framework of the Cultural Exchange Year for Italy and Russia.

Created between 1635 and 1645 the bust is kept in Rome, in the Capitoline Museums. In the Embassy it will be showcased until June 1, while between June 2 and 30 it will be available in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, thus continuing a series of mono exhibitions of the Year of Italy, which was launched with Rafael’s “Lady with the Unicorn” and goes on with “Pallas and the Centaur” by Sandro Botticelli.

The Minister of Cultural Heritage of Italy Giancarlo Galan stressed that a decision to include the show of this very exhibit into the Year’s program featuring 550 events was strategically reasoned out.

“Russian museums boast a lot of works by Tintoretto and Canaletto, Quattrocento and Seicento, however there are no Bernini’s works. We tried to fill this gap”, he stated.
