The Euro-Asian Juridical Congress, which kicked off on May 26, 2011 in Yekaterinburg, has brought together about 700 participants. Apart from Russian participants 60 guests represent foreign states: Kazakhstan, the United States, India, Ukraine, Belarus, China etc.

At the opening of the congress Anatoly Gredin, head of Sverdlovsk Oblast government, highlighted its importance and significance of instructing citizens in legal issues. Presidential aide Veniamin Yakovlev in his turn stressed that Russia at present had all prerequisites for building the legal state, though warned about a long way to it.

The Euro-Asian Juridical Congress was founded by the Association of Lawyers of Russia in 2007 aiming to establish a special forum for coordination of legal research and projects with an active involvement of officials, businessmen and scholars. The fifth session of the congress “Law and Modernization: Priorities and Strategy", held in Yekaterinburg, addresses the issues of improvement of enterprise, labor, immigration, tax and customs laws in Russia, member-states of EurAsEC, SCO and EU and measures counteracting transnational organized crime. The congress will run for two days.
