World’s Memory: “Suvorov’s Days in Italy” project

“Suvorov’s Days in Italy” project, which is timed to the Cultural Exchange Year for Russia and Italy, is kicking off May 21-27, 2011.

Within the project, in particular, May 22 in the Italian town of Lomello, in the court of the castle, which housed Suvorov’s headquarters, will be opened a monument to the commander, while a memorial plaque will be placed on the castle’s wall. On the town’s square will be launched a “parade” of musicians from Moscow Suvorov School. On this very day will be opened the “Exhibition of Archival Materials of the Town of Lomello of Suvorov’s times” and a 5-day youth cycle race Lomello - Piacenza – Tuna - Sarmato - Milan – following the route of Suvorov’s Army in the Northern Italy. It will attract 20 young people from Russia.

During the campaign will be conducted divine services, public prayers on the battle sites, roundtable discussions “Suvorov in Piacenza”, “Battle on the Trebbia River”, “Suvorov in Milan” etc.

A solemn finish of the race participants is scheduled for May 26 – on Milan’s Square opposite the Belgioioso Castle, which also served as Suvorov’s headquarters, will be placed a memorial plaque. After that on the central city square residents and guests of Milan will have a chance to see the parade of Suvorov Military School’s pupils.
