Regions of Russia: Samara releases Samara province’s interactive map-portrait

May 18, 2011 Samara Alabin Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is hosting a presentation of Samara province’s interactive map-portrait, which is timed to 160th anniversary of Samara province.

The interactive historical and cultural electronic map-portrait of Samara Oblast has been created within the framework of celebration of 160th anniversary of Samara province. It will help to trace the development of Samara province’s territory, its ethnic composition, see the events and facts in the life of Samara province within the context of Russian history.

The exhibition project includes administrative, ethnographic, historical and physical maps of Samara Oblast.

Within the project has been unveiled the modern administrative map of Samara Oblast, which contains such sections as “Honorary citizens of Samara Oblast”, “The Pride of Samara land – times and people”, “Heroes of Socialist Labor”, “Heroes of Soviet Union”, “Heroes of Russia” and many other important and interesting sections.

The ethnographic map features information on different peoples living side by side in Samara province, photos of national costumes accompanied by brief historical notes.

The historical map is made of the following sections: “Maps of Samara province and its districts - 1859-1927”, “The Map of Middle Volga Krai and its districts – 1929-1934”, “The Map of Samara Oblast – 1936-1949” etc.

The physical map provides information on nature, flora and fauna, mineral resources of Samara Oblast.
