Russian culture abroad: Russian icons and photos go on show in Mexico

The exhibition of Russian icons and photos, dedicated to 65th birthday of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, has opened its doors in the largest exhibition hall of the Cultural Center in Toluka (Mexico State).

The exposition showcases over 60 icons and miniatures, created by masters of the Moscow Oblast Ecclesiastical product factory Sofrino of the Russian Orthodox Church. “Patriarch Kirill” photo exhibition tells about trips of the Head of the Russian Orthodox Church across Russia and abroad, meetings with Russian state officials and the public, offers sketches of the church life.

The exhibition has been organized by the Mexico State Administration, Mexican Cultural Institute supported by the Russian House in Mexico and Russkiy Mir Foundation.

“We were happy to hear the news about the opening of the Russian icon exhibition which enables Mexicans to learn more about the Russian people’s soul... I think that the exhibition will attract a lot of interest among the Mexican public and give a unique chance to familiarize themselves with Russian spiritual culture”, said Metropolitan Antonio Chedraoui Archbishop of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Director of the Mexican Cultural Institute Agustin Garsa Plego called Russian religious art a basis for learning about the spirituality of Russian people.

The exhibition will be open for visitors up to mid. June. After Mexico the exhibition of Russian icons will go on display in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
