
Society and Book Culture: Roundtable discussion “Prospects of Children’s Publishing and Reading Promotion” in Pskov
June 30th – July 1st 2011 at Kaverin Pskov Regional Library the Association of Publishers of Russia is holding a roundtable discussion “Prospects of Children’s Publishing and Reading Promotion” focused on urgent issues concerning promotion of book publishing for children and teenagers in Russia.
The meeting has been co-organized by the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications. It will attract leading publishing houses which specialize in literature for children and young adults from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Smolensk, Arkhangelsk, and Petrozavodsk; representatives of bookselling network, regional children’s and school libraries of North-Western regions, and pedagogues.
Apart from the Association of Publishers of Russia the roundtable discussion will be attended by specialists of the Russian State Children’s Library and the Council for Children’s Book of Russia.
Among issues on the agenda are: study of book accessibility and demands of children’s and young adults’ readership – its social and regional aspect; preservation of classical literature for every new readership generation; promotion of new literature for children and teenagers.
Participants of the event are going to elaborate recommendations for state and legislative agencies concerning preferences for children’s book culture, as a result of the discussion they will adopt a resolution with specific proposals, which will be then introduced into relevant State Duma committees and state administrative bodies.
Above all, publishers who are going to take part in the meeting will show off their new products at the exhibition. Some of editions will be donated to rural libraries.
