IT and Culture: Google to launch virtual tour round Peterhof

Google Corp. has turned to Peterhof Museum-Reserve management with a proposal to launch a virtual tour around the palace and park ensemble.

Museum’s Director General Elena Kalnitskaya has announced that “Peterhof” was planning to welcome the proposal of Internet giant. “Google is asking to make video of Peterhof and Oranienbaum. We won’t turn it down, we are now conducting negotiations with them”, E. Kalnitskaya said.

The official website of Peterhof Museum-Reserve offers a section which enables users to virtually stroll around some of museum’s halls. Apart from this, it launches live transmission of the Grand Cascade fountain. E. Kalnitskaya aded that “Peterhof” management was also planning to install webcams in Oranienbaum, where the museum’s branch is located.

Within Google Street View project, which is a part of Google Maps cartographic service, Google offers users an extensive archive of panoramic views of world’s cities.

In February 2011 Google launched virtual tours to 17 museums of the world. They include the State Hermitage and State Tretyakov Gallery.
