International Conferences: New report highlights long-term data and databank archiving

On June 22, 2011 at the IBM Forum Switzerland in Zurich, which focused on the issues of databank archiving, the famous specialist Doctor Ulrich Kampffmeyer delivered a report entitled “Long-term Data and Databank Archiving: Balance between Compliance and Economic Efficiency” (Langzeitarchivierung von Daten und Datenbanken: Aufbewahrung zwischen Compliance und Wirtschaftlichkeit).

The report in particular addresses issues of archiving of different types of electronic materials (databases, documents, media-objects), as well as legal requirements for archiving, efficient use of archives. The report also touches upon the issues of whether archiving is becoming a necessity in conditions of information growth, and whether electronic archives are the memory of information society.
