Society and Law: New publication highlights the network of public centers of legal information

The Interregional Library Cooperation Center (MCBS) and Russian Committee of the UNESCO “Information for All” Program supported by the Ministry of Culture of Russia have issued a new publication, which brings into focus the network of public centers of legal information – an analytical report entitled “Access to the legal and other socially-significant information at libraries of Russia. Boosting legal culture of citizens”.

The report releases the results of the project “Implementation of a series of events aimed at development and improvement of activities of a network of access centers to legal and other socially significant information, set up at the facilities of regional and municipal libraries”, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture of Russia and implemented in 2010 by  MCBS, Russian Committee of the UNESCO “Information for All” Program supported by territorial authorities of the Federal Protective Service of Russia and the Public Libraries Section of the Russian Library Association.

The book examines structural and functional characteristics of access centers to the legal, environmental, business and municipal information, set up at central universal libraries of RF constituent territories.

Appendices of the publication contain lists of basic print and electronic sources of legal and other socially-significant information, available at central regional universal scientific and research libraries; information on paid services at access centers; lists of social partners, public libraries, which provide exemplary access to socially significant information; events intended for popularization of socially significant information and enhancement of citizens’ legal culture.

The publication is intended for heads and staff members of libraries, governing bodies, organizations of culture, research, education, communications and information sectors.
