Russian language: Russian language Day in the world

On June 6, birthday of Alexander Pushkin, a large-scale cultural campaign – Russian language Day is debuting in Russia and abroad.

With more than 100 countries of the world joining the campaign, offices of Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency on the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation) – Russian Centers of Science and Culture, partners and centers for Russian language promotion of Russkiy Mir Foundation are holding over 500 cultural, educational and scientific events. They all are called to promote and popularize Russian language as an important tool of international and cross-cultural communication in the modern world. Many of them kicked off in CIS member-states.

The program of the celebration includes solemn ceremonies of laying wreaths to monuments of Alexander Pushkin, festivals of Russian poetry and culture, open lessons of Russian language, Russian language competitions, theatrical performances, literary and musical evenings, conferences, roundtable discussions, show of modern and classical Russian movies, exhibitions of books of Russian publishing houses.

The Russian language Day events abroad have attracted state officials from many countries, leading Russian scholars and specialists in Russian language and Literature, workers of art and culture.

On instructions of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev a large-scale cultural event – Russian language Day - from now on will be held annually.
