History of St. Petersburg: Peter and Paul Fortress resumes guard mounting ceremony

On June 4, 2011 in front of Naryshkin bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Petersburg took place the first changing of the guard ceremony this year. This is one of the most colorful and spectacular military ceremonies since the time of Peter the Great.

The solemn ritual will start right after the midday cannon shot of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The guard includes over 30 servicemen of the Guard of Honor, Western Military District. The highlights of the event are ceremonies with flags of the Russian Federation and St. Petersburg and the banner of Armed Forces of Russia, a march, single and group drill techniques.

Changing of the Guard will be accompanied by the military orchestra. The event will be commented in Russian and English.

The solemn ceremony of guard mounting in the Peter and Paul Fortress will take place every week on Saturdays until October 31, 2011.
