IT abroad: Apple patents multilayer display technology

Apple computers of the future may feature two displays, one positioned above the other, thus creating a sense of greater depth of the image displayed on the screen. The company has recently applied for a patent on a new device – a so-called “multilayer display”.

Different displays will thus be positioned in layers to provide several different images, giving the illusion of dimensional static and dynamic picture. The patent application reads what is at issue is not just creation of a new quality of 3D images and video, but also deeper and richer two-dimensional pictures.

Apple is announced to conduct relevant technological research. According to Apple patent technology will involve several transparent OLED-displays, while each display will have its own graphic adapter.
