Society and Book Culture: Holiday of Pskov Book to kick off in Pskov

On July 24, 2011, on the day of Saint Olga, Pskov is launching a holiday of Pskov book called “Oh, my Pskov, the city of book lovers”. The holiday will kick off within the Day of the City of Pskov celebrations in Oktyabrskaya Square, by the monument to Princess Olga.

Residents and guests of the city will hear the poems dedicated to the city and Pskov land recited by Pskov poets, and songs about Pskov.

Apart from this residents and guests will meet with the singer-songwriter Vyacheslav Rakhmanov, “Lada” and “Nutcracker” dance groups, psaltery players, young artists of “Town of Childhood” studio and “Rising stars” project.

In the improvised “Author’s shop” citizens will have an opportunity to meet with writers from Pskov, buy a book, get autographs of poets and writers and have a talk with authors. The exhibition of local lore literature in the children’s park will unveil new books and publications about the city and the region.

Children will be invited to take part in the local lore quiz dedicated to Pskov “Wonderful city, ancient city!” On this day in the streets of Pskov libraries will hold a flashmob “Make friends with the library!”

The holiday of Pskov book “Oh, my Pskov, the city of book lovers” — is an annual event within the Day of the City of Pskov celebrations, which has been held by the Centralized Library system of Pskov since 2003.
