IT and Security: Google now alerts users of viruses

Starting from July 20, 2011 Google is alerting its users of viruses detected on their computers.

The notifications appear at the top of Google web search results. Google’s security engineer Damian Menscher says that the search engine spots unusual search traffic from users, whose computers turn out to be infected. Queries from such computers are sent through suspicious proxy servers, which are malware resources.

“We hope that by taking steps to notify users whose traffic is coming through these proxies, we can help them update their antivirus software and remove the infections”, Damian Menscher added.

Google is the world’s most popular search engine. Apart from the search engine Google Corp. offers its users Google Mail service, Google+ social network and other opportunities.
