World Museums: Museum of Socialist Art to open its doors in Bulgaria

In September in Sofia suburb (Bulgaria) is opening a Museum of Socialist Art that will put on display over 100 artworks created in socialism era.

The museum will showcase portraits and sculptures of various party members, and paintings of socialist laborers. Statues of Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin will be installed in the museum’s court.

The Culture Minister of Bulgaria Vezhdi Rashidov says that the museum is being set up to familiarize the young generation with the history. He stresses that many of the objects have high art value and go beyond the limits of propaganda.

Bulgaria has invested euro 1.2 million in the project. Similar museums are operating in the Czech Republic, Hungary and other countries with socialist past. Bulgaria has become the last country which has decided to set up the Museum of Socialist Art.
