On August 25, 2011 Google announced that voice search option had been added to its Google Maps service.

The mapping service has added a microphone icon. By clicking it user can talk into Google Maps to look for places and get directions. Many users note that voice search on Google Maps runs rather well – the system recognizes pronounced names of cities and other sites, though very often to succeed you need to repeat them several times.

The option is currently available just for Google Chrome users in the United States and recognizes only English. The company doesn’t specify when the voice search for Google Maps will become accessible in other countries and in other world languages.

As for today Google’s voice search is available in mobile Android OS and Chrome browser.
