Regions of Russia: Exhibition in honor of the 350th anniversary of Irkutsk foundation

"The road to the temple. Faces of the City" open-air exhibition opens August 25, 2011 in Irkutsk. It is part of the project "Heritage of Maecenas" and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the regional center of the Baikal region.

The exhibition contains documentary and photographic material from the collections of the Museum of the City History, Russian State Historical Archives (St. Petersburg), Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (Moscow), materials from private collections. The exhibition consists of two thematical blocks, one of which treats with religious confessions, the second - the image of a resident of the city in retrospect.

"But in fact, the exhibition is an entity, its idea - the revival of spiritual and cultural heritage, which at all times served as a pillar of civil society," - said the director of the Museum of City History Irina Ternovaya.
Visitors will see a lot of unique exhibits. For example, a layout of the Kazan Cathedral destroyed in 1932, on the site of which was built the regional committee of the CPSU (b) and the Executive Committee of the region.
