IT and Culture: Russian Museum launches its virtual branch in Gorno-Altaisk

On August 15, 2011 the 60th information and educational center “Russian Museum: virtual branch” in Russia opened at Gorno-Altaisk central library.

Opening of the “Russian Museum: virtual branch” information and educational center in Gorno-Altaisk city coincided with 255th anniversary of Altai people’s joining Russia and 20th anniversary of Altai Republic establishment, what is to become a momentous event and a further step in development of Altai’s cultural potential.

Introduction of modern forms of work, computer technologies, and Internet resources will contribute to shaping the library as the information and cultural center that will coordinate the work with city’s educational institutions, public and youth organizations. Russian Museum’s virtual branch will enable a closer cooperation with the Union of Artists of Altai Republic, children’s art and music schools.

Multimedia programs and films on the history of Russian art, provided by the Russian Museum as the virtual branch is opened, will significantly broaden the scope of the library’s database of materials concerning the culture of Russia. Electronic catalogues of major exhibitions of the Russian Museum, educational films, interactive game programs featuring quality images of works of art, as well as articles by the museum’s leading staff members will be of use to all library patrons.
