Google and film concern "Mosfilm" have agreed to launch a Mosfilm channel on YouTube. This is the first Russian YouTube channel created in partnership with the copyright holder. The channel will provide a free access to full-length movies.

To date, 50 licensed movies in high definition are available on the channel. "Mosfilm" plans to add five new movies every week. By late 2011, the channel will feature more than 200 films of more than two and a half thousand movies of which "Mosfilm" disposes. For other countries, "Mosfilm" movies will be available with subtitles.

"The agreement between YouTube and film concern "Mosfilm" is a good example of cooperation between owners and providers, from which users will benefit most," - says CEO of Google in Russia Vladimir Dolgov.

Film concern "Mosfilm", as the right holder, can be sure that the video hosting will provide access to only legal copies of movies. It will also be able to detect and block illegal copies by using technological solutions of YouTube, noted the authorities of the company. For YouTube the agreement opens access to licensed content to attract new users and advertisers.

Previously, "Mosfilm" has already made attempts to enter the Internet market. Thus, last April was launched a portal "Cinema Online" at www.cinema.mosfilm.ru. There is a continuous free screening of the studio’s "Golden Collection", in good quality, with subtitles in foreign languages. The program of the virtual cinema changes weekly and includes more than 500 movies; in the long run their number was planned to be increased up to 2500. For those who are not able to adjust to the schedule of online cinema, there is an opportunity to download or watch the needed movie for a fee.

Original strategy of the YouTube was to generate a maximum traffic, regardless of the content of commercials that provided it, if they did not violate the law or the rules of the web site. Until now, professional entertainment content has often been published on the portal by users in violation of copyright. In response to complaints from copyright holders YouTube has introduced filtering system and begun to carefully monitor such violations, and actively cooperate with copyright holders.
